COVENT GARDEN. Small but unfailingly interesting, this pub exudes traditional ambience, although it gets a twist from the pop culture memorabilia prominently displayed at the bar and on the walls. Covent Garden regulars make for good people-watching, although the walls offer distractingly heavy competition. In fact, they're practically a museum to artists such as Elvis and the Beatles. VICTORIA. Located just a hop, skip, and jump from Victoria Station, this popular neighborhood pub is a haven for Aussie ex-pats but open and friendly to just about anybody wanting a pint of Boddingtons. Of course, a willingness to sample their colorfully named shots gets you "in" with the staff quickly. Energetic drink slingers keep the atmosphere fun, and the wide range of cocktails, from mojitos to frozen daiquiris, ensures that even the most finicky of whistles can be wetted. Located on a corner near Spitalfields Market, Golden Heart offers a comfortable, Victorian-styled setting as well as terrific ales (go for the Adnams Broadside) and premium wines. GREENWICH. Forget the observatory or the market ­ this pub is the best reason to make the eastward trip to Greenwich. Located in the heart of the village, the red-brick Union beckons to thirsty travelers with old-fashioned charm and the cheery sound of folks swapping tales. Inside, you'll find a classic English pub scene: stone floors, wood-paneled walls, and a crowd around the bar.
